I get your point, I was a little starteled to see her promote her own product at the end of a seemingly solely informational post but then again, after all that’s what she does. She puts time and effort and passion into those programs and promotes a general enthusiasm for working out. She doesn’t say her workouts are the only ones that work but in fact, she did a really smart rethorical and argumentative move by saying why she thinks something (in this case the wicked teatox industry) is wrong and underlined it with her research and didn’t leave followers with an empty fact but actually provided one possible alternative to effectively reaching a goal and persuading people into being healthy in a way she (and many others) believe in.

There’s a key difference between how supplements are regulated versus how medications or other drugs are. Dietary supplements are considered safe until proven unsafe, while the opposite is true of prescription drugs: They’re kept out of the public’s hands until clinical trials show they’re generally effective and also unharmful to the majority of patients taking them.

I read your teatox article with great interest as I have numerous friends trying to “detox” using tea concoctions. Have you considered writing a SkinnyMe Teatox review? They appear to be Australia-based and copying the same business model as all these other scam teatox products on the market. All the usual dodgy testimonials about weight loss, bloating, and increasing energy, but then you read the disclaimer on their website: For maximum health benefits, it should be consumed in conjunction with a healthy balanced diet and exercise. Just like with Skinny Teatox, SkinnyMe is misleading people by fooling them into thinking they can just use a tea for weight loss instead of putting in the hard yards through a healthy lifestyle. Anyway, it would be great if you could write a review on SkinnyMe too. It just upsets me that so many people are fooled by these idiotic products.

Thank you Dr. Bill, I was just about to call them and order the trial sample. I’m 54.5 and because of menopause I’ve gained over 50 pounds. I gained 40 pounds in 4 months at the age of 42. Then when I was 50, I saw a horomone acpunturist ..she put me on a tea to regulate my hormones, in 9 monts I lost 30 pounds…then as I got further into menopause, the tea stopped working. I went back a year later to the same dr, tried the tea again for 2 months and didn’t lose one ounce. 2 weeks ago the scale said I gain 5 pounds in 3 days! Seriously! I am a vegetarian, eat pretty healthy, require a lot of protein, have cut out bread greatly and my food hasn’t changed greatly in 30 years. Menopause has ruined my life…and I’m the only person I know that has gained so much weight. I’m miserable and looking for a meal, diet, food service delivery plan to help me get this weight off. I’ve tried bio-identicals with no luck and yet at this point I’m about to look into HCG, that’s how desperate I am. Any suggestions?

Really good ideas!! I love the different teas! I’m a big fan of peppermint so am looking forward to trying the others! One note though, chewing him cause air and acid build up to bloat in the stomach as the body thinks it’s about to get food so starts the digesting process ready for when food enters it, most weight loss plans, fitness instructors and personal trainers will advise against any gum when trying to lose weight and/or inches 🙂 xxx

Great article. I think it’s really important to choose a detox that involves food. Many people choose liquid detox’s such as the master cleanse but this just destroys your metabolism. I have a classmate that sells for ItWorks, and she spams her facebook with it trying to get people to buy (to the point that when she isn’t around its just one big joke). And while I totally get that she feels like she’s found something great that works, I just can’t buy into it. I did my googling and found that its categorized as a cosmetic or dietary supplement company so they can use vague descriptors for what it does and not worry too much about false advertising. I even talked to a doctor friend about the wraps they sell (supposedly special minerals and herbs that help blast fat and tone/tighten, and remove cellulite) and he told me straight out nothing absorbed through the skin can burn fat or tighten/tone, all it could do is maybe help you sweat out water weight (you wrap them on the cover in like plastic wrap for hours which doesn’t sound healthy especially on a hot day). So now I just have to ignore everything she posts because I don’t want to be the person that tells her there’s no real scientific evidence behind it and they only reason it “works” for her is because shes already super slim with a six pack. . These companies focus on recruiting young attractive fit people to sell for them to people that either know them really well (and assume they wouldn’t lie about it or trust them enough to not google) or people that barely know them and really only know that they look like that now and believe it’s due to the product.
So maybe it’s time we turn the tables and instead look at fruits and veggies as a delicious way to “cheat” on a healthy weight loss diet. He has helped her immeasurably – he is alternative, but works with your attending physician whenever possible.
Honestly, I almost fell into this fit tea or skinny tea trap! I almost wanted to buy it last year cause, well, I was thinking “oh, if this could help me lose weight faster, why not?”. Then I came to my senses and did some digging around for reviews. ALL the reviews were, basically, saying the same thing!! Then, I saw some comments on their FB page, people were saying it have them cramps, stomach ache and the list goes on. Who doesn’t want to think that a delightful mixture of kale, twigs, tree sap, unicorn tears, and whatever Gwyneth Paltrow is raving about this week can make you pretty? It’s glitter in a bottle. Right? Wrong. For one, most green juices are just sugar water. Suja Juice’s Green Supreme has 42 grams of sugar, no iron or B vitamins, and minimal protein. At $6.99 to $8.99 per bottle, you’re getting …. juice. Similarly, BlueprintCleanse, Juice From The Raw, and JUS by Julie are not magic keys to weight loss and well-being. All are cold-pressed, organic, and sell at astronomically high prices with vague promises of making you less gross.

If you eat your dinner restaurant style on your plate rather than family style, helping yourself from bowls and platters on the table, you’ll lose weight. Most of us tend to eat an average of 150 percent more calories in the evening than in the morning. In the long-term, it can make the bowel reliant on this kind of stimulation to work.”’ Senna also can lead to electrolyte shortage and nutrient deficiencies. Furthermore, your body already naturally detoxes your body via your liver and kidneys. Think about it logically: if toxins were actually building up in your body that your liver and kidneys could not naturally excrete, you would likely already be sick or even dead. Clearly, this is not the case in healthy individuals. Your organs are excellent at performing their job – you do not need the help of a bogus tea.
Bottle gourds are old-world hard-shelled fruits that anecdotal evidence suggests can help you lose weight. People who swear by it find that, due to its high fiber content, it creates a sensation of fullness and curbs appetite. It also has high water content (always a good thing) and has a number of great nutrients. If you do decide to drink bottle gourd juice, do not do so in such a way that you use it to “starve” yourself (see below.) Your body needs all the (good) food and nutrients it needs to maintain a balanced diet, however, it’s a great way to help resist cravings and potential snacking sprees!

A newer and more encouraging trend in detoxing is the movement toward foods that support the body’s natural defenses against harmful substances. As previously mentioned, science suggests benefits of things such as apple cider vinegar, green tea, and lemon water.
