Low-calorie diets are also referred to as balanced percentage diets. Due to their minimal detrimental effects, these types of diets are most commonly recommended by nutritionists. In addition to restricting calorie intake, a balanced diet also regulates macronutrient consumption. From the total number of allotted daily calories, it is recommended that 55% should come from carbohydrates, 15% from protein, and 30% from fats with no more than 10% of total fat coming from saturated forms. For instance, a recommended 1,200 calorie diet would supply about 660 calories from carbohydrates, 180 from protein, and 360 from fat. Some studies suggest that increased consumption of protein can help ease hunger pangs associated with reduced caloric intake by increasing the feeling of satiety. Calorie restriction in this way has many long-term benefits. After reaching the desired body weight, the calories consumed per day may be increased gradually, without exceeding 2,000 net (i.e. derived by subtracting calories burned by physical activity from calories consumed). Combined with increased physical activity, low-calorie diets are thought to be most effective long-term, unlike crash diets, which can achieve short-term results, at best. Physical activity could greatly enhance the efficiency of a diet. The healthiest weight loss regimen, therefore, is one that consists of a balanced diet and moderate physical activity.

Did you just comment to slopily try to twist her words? She’s saying instead of buying teas that don’t work, people should work out and eat healthy. And only after she suggests two paid products of her line (would you be more pleased if she recommended other fitness workouts?) and a third – completely FREE – option. Here's an interesting thought to keep in mind. If all you do is fast just one day a week, it adds up spectacularly. In seven years, you will have fasted for one entire year. For the average person, that represents 1.5 pounds saved every two weeks—39 lbs in body weight at the end of the seven years! Great article. I think it’s really important to choose a detox that involves food. The problem with liquid-only detoxing is that it damages your metabolism. So when you start eating normally again, you are much more likely to gain the weight you lost. To anyone who’s trying to lose weight, there’s a great program called the 3 week diet. I have been using FitTea for almost 3 months now and yes it’s water weight – but for someone on a weight loss journey water weight is a good start. It makes me feel less bloated. There is nothing wrong with that. Your blog lost absolutely all creditability as you’re being paid to do the same thing these models are. It doesn’t bother me that models are being paid for product placement. I don’t care. FitTea seems to lower my bloating – I don’t believe and will never believe that one item will make me lose weight. Hi Alissa! If you peeked into my protein shake cabinet, you would see that I have tried so many as well! I am picky especially with plant-based ones. They tend to have a stronger flavor than whey so it is harder to disguise them. Whole Foods has one that is pretty good and it is their own brand so it is relatively cheaper and goes on sale a lot. I wish that I had one that I just LOVED but I am still searching. I will keep you posted when I find my absolute favorite!

However, many popular detox diets, especially those that involve extreme low-calorie fasting, can rob the body of important nutrients and place the body in starvation mode, which actually slows your metabolism. In the 1970’s and ‘80’s, saturated fats got shoved into the spotlight as the main cause for obesity. Coconut oil, being a saturated fat, was tossed along with the rest of them. The healthier alternative that we created? Trans-fat. One could say that backfired a wee bit eh? Coconut oil isn’t just any old saturated fat though; it contains unique fats called medium chain triglycerides that help you use energy (aka calories) more efficiently. MCT’s are indeed a saturated fat, but they are not the same as many of the other saturated fats we hear about-those fats are long chain triglycerides. Why does the length matter? Its chemical makeup is what determines how our body processes it and breaks it down. MCT’s are not broken down in the intestines, and therefore do not get stored away immediately as fat. Instead, they absorbed intact and sent right to the liver, where they are used as energy. For simplicity sake, I’m going to approach this from the perspective of an individual looking to shed some pounds, since that’s the more common topic I see. Where the issue arises with these teas comes about is that, similar to many fads in the fitness industry, people who do not have experience in the world of fitness or physical activity at all view these teas as the solution to their weight loss journeys. When people post saying “I lost 10 pounds in two weeks by just drinking this tea!” don’t be fooled. They probably did lose the weight, but that weight lost is from water retention as a result of inflammation in their digestive system, among other things, not fat. Drinking these teas will not incinerate the fat around your mid-section and give you a flat stomach and abs. But you know what will? Squats, rows, deadlifts, benching, lunging… you get the idea. What they will do, however, is allow your digestive system some relief if you’re experience some discomfort/bloating, and possibly shed some water weight that you may be holding on to. Similarly, unless you have some form of a hepatic issue, you were given a fully functioning liver that does an excellent job detoxifying your body. You won’t need to reset or detoxify your digestive system with a tea if you’ve been adhering to a nutritious lifestyle from the get go, and drinking a magical tea won’t change your habits that got you there in the first place.

My take on “detox” in its popular sense is that it is best understood as the secular equivalent of the purification/abstinence rituals which are part of many religions (eg, Ramadan in Islam, Lent in some forms of Christianity, Pesach in Judaism). These rituals may provide some psychological comfort but are unlikely to be of much physiological benefit.
I’d say anyone that thinks you can get abs just from drinking tea is a bit special. I drink SkinnyBunny tea and it helps boost your metabolism and reduce bloating but it doesn’t promise any quick fixes. It’s the same as any other pre workout supplement or stack that people use. It gives you a helping hand, but you need to combine diet and exercise for maximum results.
