So why do the before and after pictures that promote these fads look so convincing? It’s simple. As I mentioned before, weight loss works on the basis of caloric deficit. Therefore by replacing meals with teas or juices that have a lower caloric content you may see an initial drop in weight. However, this approach to weight loss is not only unsustainable but often results in regaining extra weight as you go back to your usual eating habits. Ultimately, if it’s too good to be true it most likely is. Don’t buy into fake promises or worse still fake results. Instead, focus on creating a sustainable healthy lifestyle with a balance of healthy nourishing food choices and time spent getting your heart pumping.

Water is the force of life. Understanding this may be the most important part of any detox routine. Our bodies are roughly two-thirds water so we must make sure we are replenishing our systems with fresh, filtered water on a regular basis. In addition to flushing our primary detox organs (liver and kidneys), water, combined with heat and or exercise, drives one of the most important and scientifically proven detox methods—sauna.
Once every two years I do a gallbladder cleans/detox. People call me crazy but the true crazy is what I pass, large and small light green stones. If you have gallbladder issues or a bad gallbladder runs in your family, try this 2 day detox that worked for me and others in my family. The details: For two days drink nothing but a gallon or two, depending on your size and hunger needs, of organic apple juice. On the second night drink a 1/2 cup of organic olive oil mixed with 1/4 cup of lemon juice. On the 3rd or 4th day you will pass every gal stone in your body! At 19 I passed over 20 stones! Note this can cause discomfort (stomach ack, maybe sleeplessness for the 2nd night), your body is working to rid itself of these harmful stones. The juice softens the stones and the oil helps lube and pass them. Not selling anything just informing. Don’t be far from a bathroom on day 3 and 4, the need to go will hit you quickly!
On talk shows and in magazines, I often hear celebrities championing cleanses. But when they say "cleanse" and I say "cleanse," we're usually talking about two very different things. Celebrities use the word to refer to so-called detox diets that promise to help you shed 20 pounds in two weeks. These rapid weight loss regimens can deprive you of crucial nutrients and calories, forcing your body into starvation mode. You do lose weight, but as your metabolism slows, the pounds eventually creep back.
The liver. Acting as the body's principal filter, the liver produces a family of proteins called metallothioneins, which are also found in the kidneys. Metallothioneins not only metabolize dietary nutrients like copper and zinc but also neutralize harmful metals like lead, cadmium, and mercury to prepare for their elimination from the body. Liver cells also produce groups of enzymes that regulate the metabolism of drugs and are an important part of the body's defense against harmful chemicals and other toxins.
Weight loss occurs when the body is expending more energy in work and metabolism than it is absorbing from food or other nutrients. It will then use stored reserves from fat or muscle, gradually leading to weight loss. For athletes seeking to improve performance or to meet required weight classification for participation in a sport, it is not uncommon to seek additional weight loss even if they are already at their ideal body weight. Others may be driven to lose weight to achieve an appearance they consider more attractive. However, being underweight is associated with health risks such as difficulty fighting off infection, osteoporosis, decreased muscle strength, trouble regulating body temperature and even increased risk of death.[3]
