Conversely, the more food in front of you, the more you’ll eat—regardless of how hungry you are. So instead of using regular dinner plates that range these days from 10 to 14 inches (making them look empty if they’re not heaped with food), serve your main course on salad plates (about 7 to 9 inches wide). Instead of 16-ounce glasses and oversized coffee mugs, return to the old days of 8-ounce glasses and 6-ounce coffee cups.
Are you still on a “healing” protocol diet or more just “healthy” protocol? Have you dealt with any anxiety along your path? How do you still implement all your yummy foods in your healthy diet? And lastly, what supplements do you feel like have made the biggest difference in your energy levels? I’m on my own healing journey for an auto immune disorder and it can be so overwhelming. Thanks in advance! Love, Kristina
Dandelion and peppermint tea is a fabulous drink that will help keep your liver healthy. The liver is an incredible organ. Not only is it the only way to truly detoxify your body, it is also plays a central role in many metabolic processes-a lot of which affect weight. In terms of fat metabolism, the liver is full of cells that break down fats and turn them into usable energy. These cells are also responsible for the flow of bile, which helps breakdown and absorb fats. In the metabolism of carbohydrates, the liver helps keep your blood sugar steady, therefore keeping energy levels up and regulating appetite. The list goes on, but the point is helping your liver helps your weight, as it plays a crucial role in managing fats and their absorption. Dandelion and peppermint both help your liver. Dandelion has hepatoprotection constituents, with hepatoprotection meaning an ability to prevent damage to the liver. Peppermint and dandelion both automatically stimulate the production of bile in the liver, helping with digestion and the absorption of nutrients. Mix these two together, and you have a powerful liver protecting tea!
Lunch and dinner should always always always include loads of vegetables. Salads, lightly steamed or slowly baked at low heat is best. Fruit is a good option to include in your breakfast or as a snack. Try not to have more than two pieces a day due to the fructose, and avoid having fruit after a meal or on a full stomach because it can ferment in your stomach. Fruit is actually best enjoyed on an empty stomach, and I like to have a citrus-y type fruit such as grapefruit or orange in the morning before breakfast.
When it comes to simple dietary changes, there’s little evidence of harm. Eating more quinoa and kale, and less processed and refined foods is reasonable dietary advice for everyone. Homeopathic “detox” is also likely safe — with no active ingredients, homeopathy is an elaborate placebo system. As you get into more unorthodox detox treatments that actually contain active ingredients, there is the potential for harm. Coffee enemas are a detoxification process that has a real risk of harm. From a medical perspective, coffee enemas are considered unsafe. Rare but serious adverse events like septicemia (bacteria in the bloodstream), rectal perforation, and electrolyte abnormalities have been caused by coffee enemas. Deaths from the administration of coffee enemas have also been reported.

I have unexplainable health issues (headaches, fatigue, aches and pains) and my physical came out with me being perfectly healthy. I need my energy and strength back for the sake of our little kids. I feel whole foods diet might be the best thing to try to remedy some of this. But with three little ones I need to be very prepared or eating healthy goes out the window.
Possibly the best known example of ritual cleansing in the West is the Christian baptism. Christians originally practiced the custom of washing the feet of another person. This conveyed symbolic meaning, as well as having the more practical benefit of ensuring that guests have nice-smelling feet. The Bible contains many references to cleansing, in some cases with fire.

So why doesn’t alkalizing work? Because pH is exactly the opposite of a miracle. The pH scale is a measure of concentration of hydrogen ions, nothing more, nothing less. The low end of the scale is highly acidic, and the high end is basic (aka alkaline). One of the acceptable foods on the cleanse is a lemon, a food with about the same pH as hydrochloric acid. This is a trend with the foods on the list; a large quantity of them are acidic. If anybody could explain to me with some blood tests how a diet with this many acidic foods alkalizes your body, I’d love to hear the explanation. But until then, they could try to find any science on how changing your pH would be healthy. Your body’s pH is incredibly tightly controlled. Your blood’s pH range is always around 7.35. You probably shouldn’t screw with that because a diet guru suggested it. "Alkalizing" your body is simply not a thing.
Some popular beliefs attached to weight loss have been shown to either have less effect on weight loss as commonly believed or are actively unhealthy. According to Harvard Health, the idea of metabolism being the "key to weight" is "part truth and part myth" as while metabolism does affect weight loss, external forces such as diet and exercise have an equal effect.[44] They also commented that the idea of changing one's rate of metabolism is under debate.[44] Diet plans in fitness magazines are also often believed to be effective, but may actually be harmful by limiting the daily intake of important calories and nutrients which can be detrimental depending on the person and are even capable of driving individuals away from weight loss.[45]
Instead of piling everything on one plate, bring food to the table in individual courses. For the first two courses, bring out soup or veggies such as a green salad or the most filling fruits and vegetables. By the time you get to the more calorie-dense foods, like meat and dessert, you’ll be eating less or may already be full. Nothing wrong with leftovers!

If the Master Cleanse is not enough to balance your body, the newest specialty cleanse that’s making the rounds in celebrity circles is the Alkaline Cleanse, promising to fix all your health issues by eating "alkaline-promoting foods." The foods for the diet include a lot of very-low-calorie green vegetables, herbal teas, and "alkaline water." It claims to heal a variety of health ailments and, of course, detox you. Different versions of alkaline diets have shown up in recent years, but people latched onto this one after Dr. Robert O. Young of pH Miracle Living made claims that balancing your body’s pH could heal a host of ailments, including cancer.
The morning after the first time I drank the cleanse tea I had a little bit of a stomachache and the cleanse tea did its job. I would say after my third time drinking it my body was used to the tea (or cleansed out) and I didn’t notice a difference between drinking it or not. Although when we went out of town for a week and a half and I forgot the tea, I did notice a difference when I started drinking it again. It was like the first time all over again.
A healthier way to think about resetting yourself in the New Year is to lose the restrictive mindset and instead focus on foods you can add to your diet for their nutritional benefits, says Zeitlin. Incorporating fresh veggies, like Brussels sprouts, broccoli, and spinach, into your diet has proven benefits to help your body run properly — including ridding itself of waste products.
In the UK, up to 5% of the general population is underweight, but more than 10% of those with lung or gastrointestinal diseases and who have recently had surgery.[30] According to data in the UK using the Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool ('MUST'), which incorporates unintentional weight loss, more than 10% of the population over the age of 65 is at risk of malnutrition.[30] A high proportion (10-60%) of hospital patients are also at risk, along with a similar proportion in care homes.[30]
Hi Serafina! This is a fabulous question. I love baked goods so it was very hard for me to give it all up for a period of time. I went through different stages — when I first eliminated most foods, I had headaches and didn’t feel that great. I wasn’t until I broke through that initial hard stage that I felt so much sharper and energetic. Now, I still eat gluten, dairy, and sugar (even though I feel much better when I don’t) but I mix in a lot of healthy foods to balance it all out. Wishing you all the best! — Melissa
Traveling dancing, training, dieting and entrepreneurship were taking a toll on my body, energy, and immune system.  I sometimes found it difficult to find all the necessary individual teas I needed to stay healthy, energetic and on top of my game. I found myself traveling with bags of tea, and if you end up at a not too friendly airport, it would be confiscated or worse, suspected as illicit drugs lol!  I found the solution, add organic high-grade teas to my product line.  My Herbal Tea Line includes Skinny Detox Tea, Probiotic Wellness Tea and A Global Favorite, Japanese Matcha Green Tea Powder. They're always made fresh, no additives, no chemicals, non-gmo, and potent so that they work from the first cup to the last from a bag! I hope you find my teas as delightful, helpful and healthy as I and my millions of fans worldwide have.

Don't forget that pollution and allergens are all around you. They're in the air and can trigger allergy symptoms (such as yucky, puffy, red eyes). Dr. Travis Stork, host of daytime talk show The Doctors advises you flush your nasal passages regularly with a Neti Pot. Doing so can eliminate the side effects of air pollutants and lead to better breathing naturally. If you use the Neti Pot before bed, even better—it will enhance your sleep.
Start the day with a bowl of this healthy whole grain. Quinoa contains all nine essential amino acids, making it a complete protein. (Not many cleanses incorporate protein, which can be problematic; if you're not consuming enough amino acids, your body will begin mining them from your muscle tissue. Muscle loss is, unfortunately, one way that detox dieters lose weight.) Quinoa also provides fiber to bulk up stool, and phosphorus to help stimulate bowel movements. The prunes deliver even more fiber, plus sorbitol, a sugar alcohol with a laxative effect.
Another risk regarding the use of dietary supplements intended to promote weight loss is that these products are usually self-prescribed without clearance or input from a health care professional. This can result in harmful interactions between different products and/or medications. Currently in the U.S., there is no controlled system for reporting bad reactions and side effects associated with popular weight loss pills. While some people taking these products, or their doctors, may sometimes report problems to the FDA, they’re not required by law to do so.

It’s easy to get drawn into the marketing of detoxes or cleanses (the two are basically interchangeable these days, both terms are used by those who shill them); they’re everywhere, doesn’t that make them scientific? Some of them claim to help you lose weight, some say they treat diseases, and some just … make you less toxic? Align your chi with your wallpaper? Organize your closet and tell your BFF that yes, her passive-aggressive Facebook status messages about her ex have been lame since about two minutes past the age of 15?
After dinner, wash all the dishes, wipe down the counters, turn out the light, and, if necessary, tape closed the cabinets and refrigerator. Late-evening eating significantly increases the overall number of calories you eat, a University of Texas study found. Learning how to stop late-night snacking can save 300 or more calories a day, or 31 pounds a year.
Prepare the navy beans by adding 3 cups of fresh water to a pot for each cup of dried beans, so that the liquid level is about 1-2 inches about the beans. Bring the water to a boil and then reduce to a simmer, partially covering the pot. Skim off any foam that develops, and simmer for 1 to 1 ½ hours until tender. Add to a salad or enjoy as a dish on its own.

No. If you think you need a pill because these organs are not functioning properly, you don’t need to head to a spa or GNC. You need a physician. Symptoms of your digestive organs not working right include your skin turning yellow from jaundice or blood in your stool. Hint: These maladies are not treatable at a day spa or with an over-the-counter supplement (if they happen to you, see a doctor immediately). In fact, most supplements are pretty much bullshit.

Many diets promote cleansing and detoxification. I follow and recommend an organic, variable, intermittent fasting diet but there are other options if that isn’t for you. You could also try a raw alkaline diet. It’s a temporary cleanse consisting of uncooked fruits and vegetables and raw nuts, seeds, and sprouts. It’s a great strategy for detoxing the colon and liver. A juice diet is also helpful and is centered around consuming freshly-made fruit and vegetable juice — preferably organic.
Fasting indeed has a long-standing spiritual tradition. "Almost every religion has some type of fasting ritual -- Lent, Ramadan, Yom Kippur ... the Hindus and Buddhists fast, too," says James Dillard, MD, assistant clinical professor at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City. He's author of Alternative Medicinefor Dummies.
