Copper and zinc, together: When thyroid hormones are too low, your body pumps the brakes on your metabolism. But zinc can help boost your immune system and maintain a healthy thyroid. The downside: Adding zinc to your supplement routine can make you copper deficient. That's why Dr. Gottfried suggests women pair them together (you can get this in a high-potency multivitamin). For an optimal ratio, she suggests taking 20mg of zinc each day with 2mg of copper.
However, there are some, ahem, issues with these cleanses. First of all, it’s a misconception that the Master Cleanse can "jumpstart your metabolism." Weight loss doesn’t equal a higher metabolism. Though people may lose weight on these cleanses, it’s because they’re ultra-low calorie diets. And that dizzy, high-like feeling you might experience on the Master Cleanse — well, that’s the feeling of starvation. One of the Master Cleanse how-to websites lists potential side effects, including dizziness, nausea, feeling cold, and passing gallstones. They allege that these are all from toxins leaving the body. Nope. These are all symptoms of severe calorie restriction, not "detoxing," not even organic detoxing with lemon and cayenne pepper.
Additionally, when applied topically to the skin in small amounts, grapefruit essential oil is an excellent diuretic and lymphatic stimulant — one reason why it’s included in many cellulite creams and blends for dry brushing. All of these benefits can be obtained from using several drops of pure grapefruit essential oil either diffused in your office/home, added to shower or bath, or massaged with a carrier oil onto your chest and wrists. Try this when a craving strikes, and you might just find you’re able to pass on the snacks.
2. Celebrate cooking (and eating) at home. Michael Pollan, bestselling author of The Omnivore’s Dilemma and Cooked, urges us to: “Eat food (real food). Not too much. Mostly plants.” Following these three rules means cooking more in your own kitchen. We know this takes time — but it’s worth it. Make eating eventful by creating great meals and sharing the experience with people you love. It will have exponential effects on your weight — and your health.
First, lighten up your toxin load. Eliminate alcohol, coffee, cigarettes, refined sugars, and saturated fats, all of which act as toxins in the body and are obstacles to your healing process. Also, minimize use of chemical-based household cleaners and personal health care products (cleansers, shampoos, deodorants, and toothpastes), and substitute natural alternatives.
One important thing I have learnt is healing the wounds of my past & learning to validate my emotions as I had realised I surpressed my emotions for years & it manifested in my body & my body was shouting at me. People like Heidi Sawyer & Wendy De Rosa have helped me to understand my gift of sensitivity & how ignoring my feelings had manifested in my body. Finding the true me is one of the blessings of doing inner work not to mention healing my body. It takes a lot of energy to suppress emotions.
