Some of the below won’t work for everyone. You can always consult nutrition labels to make sure your military diet substitutes match the carbohydrates, fat, and protein of the foods that you are substituting. For example, if you want the diet to be vegan friendly you can substitute the cheddar cheese for non-dairy cheese. A handful of almonds might work as well. Not to beat a dead horse but, 3 day military diet substitutes are not encouraged. The below list is just for those that absolutely can’t or won’t eat what is on the meal plan.

Green tea is a great coffee substitute and possibly a healthy drink altogether. The important part about the coffee or tea in the morning is the caffeine. A great substitution for this caffeinated drink is green tea. Green Tea smoothie for weight loss contains EGCG. EGCG is the compound that has been the main ingredient in weight loss powders and pills but you get it naturally (and safely) in Green Tea. Roast cocoa beans will also work in a pinch. A sugar free energy drink isn’t ideal but it could also work.
To design the DASH breakfast that works best for you, keep several points in mind. There is an emphasis on reducing sodium intake. That means you should limit table salt during cooking, and use restraint at the table. However, not everyone is “salt sensitive,” and thus not everyone will experience blood pressure reductions due to limitations on salt in the diet. Boosting fiber, and cutting added sugars, however, should help keep blood pressure in check no matter who you are.
Recently, the Military Diet began provided scientific evidence to support their program. The problem is that the science is about other diets, not about this 3-day program. For example, the website cites research conducted by nutrition scientist Krista Varady. But her research was conducted to support her diet (The Every Other Day Diet), not the Military Diet. There is some science to support intermittent fasting, but none (that I've seen) to support a hot dog and ice cream based plan.
The plan costs $299.99 per month without snacks and $339.99 with snacks. A la carte items start at $2.49. You’ll have to budget more, too, to add in fresh items; the company supplies its ham and vegetable frittata, for instance, but you supply the whole-wheat toast and avocado slices. For all phases, South Beach Diet offers a website called The Palm with recipes, tips and weight loss articles.
A 30-year-old Caucasian male on a low carbohydrate diet presented with nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. The patient's bicarbonate level was 12 and he had hyperglycemia and ketonemia. He was felt to be in diabetic ketoacidosis and was started on intravenous insulin and isotonic saline infusions and responded well. Following cessation of insulin therapy, the patient remained normoglycemic for the remainder of his hospital stay. He later admitted to having been on the South Beach Diet, which is a low carbohydrate diet, for the three weeks prior to his presentation and during which time he had lost 16 pounds. On admission his BMI was 27.1. On presentation, the patient was felt to be in diabetic ketoacidosis but, interestingly, he was subsequently euglycemic without therapy. Following discharge, the patient discontinued the diet plan and he has remained asymptomatic and euglycemic over the following two years.
Hi Norman. I found your information very helpful. I received my SBD today and quickly put away the frozen foods and sat down to pack up the rest putting each day meals in a plastic bag with the meal plan, highlighting what items I would need to get out of the freezer. (trying to make getting out of the door in the AM easier. I was excited when packing week 1 but quickly got nervous with Phase 2. I was hoping I would receive an actual plan for the 2nd week to help be grasp their method. I am flustered already and haven’t started. I tried to find Phase 2 videos to help me select what to eat but the videos were very old. Do you have any suggestions for me or have you done a video for Phase 2? I was a little scared when I saw that there wasn’t a pre-planned menu. I’d appreciate any of your help.

Don’t be afraid of fruit! Yes, fruits have sugar, but they also have fiber and beneficial nutrients like potassium and vitamin C. One serving is approximately 1 cup of berries or 1/2 a large apple or banana. I’ve found the fruits that work best for me are blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, apples, pears, and oranges. Eating fruit with a meal works better for me than eating it on its own. I consider it dessert!
The second season received generally positive reviews as well. The season has an approval rating of 83% based on 12 reviews, with an average rating of 7.08/10 on Rotten Tomatoes. Many experts believe that when people lose weight very quickly due to severely restricting their calorie intake they are actually losing a combination of water, some fat mass and also some muscle mass. (1) A fast decline in water that’s stored inside muscles and other tissues is likely the primary reason that someone can drop pounds so quickly when following a calorie-restrictive plan like the 3-day military diet.
The DASH diet is rich in potassium, magnesium, calcium, and fiber; and has a low content of sodium (salt) and saturated fat. Adding more of these nutrients improve the electrolyte balance in the body, allowing it to excrete excess fluid that contributes to high blood pressure. These nutrients also promote relaxation of the blood vessels, reducing blood pressure. These nutrients are often deficient in overweight and obese people, so the DASH diet can help correct those deficiencies and help people feel better. By itself, some people may lose weight with the DASH diet, but most will need to add exercise or further reduce carbohydrates to see big weight losses. The good news for people with diabetes, prediabetes, or insulin resistance is that the DASH diet does improve insulin sensitivity.

Your body consumes calories, even while you’re resting. A sedentary person (no exercise) burns an average of about 1600 calories in a day. These calories, however, are usually replaced with what you do eat. Through the first 3 Days of the diet you’ll eat less than what you consume, which means there’s an additional deficit of about 400 calories per day. So, without exercising, you can expect to cut out 1400 calories per day during the first 3 days of the Military Diet. Add in some walking and dedicate a bit of time to exercise, and you’ll eliminate another 600 calories or more! Based on these numbers, you’d cut out about 2000 calories per day, resulting in a weight loss of less than 3 pounds during the first 3 days of the Military Diet.
In February 2017, advertising for the show sparked criticism in Germany, where Netflix promoted the show with posters depicting a human finger sliced up like a currywurst, a popular German fast food dish. After receiving more than 50 complaints that the advertising was glorifying violence and inducing fear, especially in children, the German Advertising Council, a self-regulatory institution, forwarded the complaints to the company. Netflix then decided to end the campaign and remove all posters.
“Most people don’t eat enough whole grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts and legumes, foods rich in the nutrients that you need to support health on the DASH diet,” Ward says. These foods provide fiber, potassium and magnesium, which help control or prevent high blood pressure and also have other health benefits such as regulating blood and nerve functioning and supporting digestive health. The foods also provide a variety of other nutrients.
