The South Beach Diet aims to be a lifelong eating plan that you adapt when you reach the maintenance period, which is phase 3. By this point, you have learned how to eat in a healthy way, meaning you can have occasional treats, like a slice of cake, but by using what you learned in phases 1 and 2, you keep yourself from veering too far off the plan.
The best way to avoid these foods is to shop around the edges of the grocery store and minimize the number of processed, packaged foods in the middle. Sticking with "real" food in its whole, minimally processed form is the best way to eat well for diabetes. Generally speaking, it also depends on your size. If you are overly obese, by simply cutting down on junk food and moving your body a bit, you may drop 10 pounds in less than a week easily without causing a health problem. You may lose weight; but the pounds will creep up again when you stop the diet.

There are basically three phases in South Beach Diet. You eat normal portion sizes In Phase 1, but all carbohydrate are restricted. This is the strictest phase in the diet and will last for two weeks. It emphasizes lean meats, such as chicken, turkey, fish, and shellfish. Low-Glycemic-index vegetables are allowed as well as low-fat cheese, nuts, eggs. Dieters should expect to lose somewhere between 8 to 12 pounds. In Phase 2, some of the banned food are slowly introduced while weight loss continue to around 1-2 pounds per week. You should remain on it until you lost your desired amount of weight. Phase 3 is for maintenance and should be followed for life. Is all about maintaining your desired weight with a healthy balanced diet. Should your weight begin to climb, simply return to Phase 1.
Here’s the hard truth—the Military Diet is the quintessential definition of a “fad diet,” and it’s an eating plan that I would not recommend or advise anyone to follow.
