The calorie allotment is so low per day that I felt like I would pass out. Only 1000 calories per day for a woman in phase one of South Beach. I felt hungry pretty much ALL THE TIME! Sometimes just a little hungry and at the end of the day extremely hungry. Then I would microwave my little frozen meal – and little is was – I would eat it and then still feel miserably hungry. The food is not good. Just passable. Definitely not quality worth the price! The bars and shakes are not bad and if I could get them separately, I would use them as a meal replacement when I have a busy schedule. The bad food and lack of quantity of food is so misery making that I wish I’d never gotten rooked into this deal. At this point, I’m willing to PAY $125 for not having to endure another month of this awful food! Even in Phase 2 of South Beach, you are only allowed 1200 calories per day. How can you possibly exercise and carry on a life? I definitely DON’T recommend the South Beach Diet! Buy the book instead, try to incorporate the ideas in to a sensible plan and make sure you get enough healthy calories so that you don’t feel faint and you’ll lose weight just fine.

Despite the widespread use of weight reducing low carbohydrate diets for many years now, few reports to date have highlighted their association with clinically relevant ketoacidosis [6,7]. This either means that it is a rare complication, or that it has, so far, not been recognized as a possible complication of a very strict low carbohydrate diet. The hyperglycemic ketoacidosis could easily, in the past, have simply been passed off as a complication of type 2 diabetes mellitus or metabolic syndrome (the low carbohydrate diet being viewed as an irrelevancy). It could also be that some people are applying the diet in an ever increasingly more fanatical way. A final possibility is that the syndrome is brought about by some, as yet unknown, trigger in persons on a very low carbohydrate diet.
With intermittent fasting, you narrow the size of your eating window, or you occasionally do fasts of 24 hours. For instance, you can start eating at noon and finish up by 8pm, essentially skipping breakfast. After I purchased the South Beach Diet book I lost 25 pounds in 45 days. It surprised me too. My doc asked me if I was starving myself. I told him and another doc that i was just following the book's advice. Mostly eggs and meat to start. Got to get that protein. I also drank Ensure high protein drinks. The book came after two doctors recommended it. I'm way thru the first phase and now I can eat other foods and still eat out. I mostly have given up the bread and baked potatoes.
You don’t have to avoid carbs entirely, but you do have to be careful about how many you eat at one time. The best choices are carbs that contain a lot of fiber like beans, whole grains, starchy vegetables, and fruit. I try to eat less than 40g carb per meal and that’s more than many other people with diabetes eat. Experiment to see what your body can tolerate.

Pinners, bloggers and YouTube vlogs are driving this trend forward with viral before-and-after pictures showcasing impressive (and often hard to believe) changes. Devotees of the diet consume 1,100 to 1,400 calories a day in the form of so-called “fat-burning” food combinations like hot dogs and bananas, and tuna and toast. (Yes, we said hot dogs.) It’s a one-size-fits-all plan, so athletic men and women are going to dine on the same grub as their more sedentary peers. But is this really a healthy way to lose weight? We got to the bottom of this much-talked-about plan.
DASH is an acronym for “Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension” and was designed to help lower blood pressure in people with hypertension (high blood pressure). This eating pattern promotes eating more vegetables, fruits, whole grains, nuts, seeds, and lower fat or fat-free dairy products, poultry and fish. This eating pattern also limits foods high in sodium (salt) saturated fat, red meat, sweets, added sugars and sugar sweetened drinks. The DASH diet is also higher in fiber and is rich in nutrients, such as potassium, calcium, and magnesium, which may help to lower blood pressure.

More men than women have diabetes in the US, and the disease can affect men differently than women.
As stated by Sacks, F. et al., reductions in sodium intake by this amount per day correlated with greater decreases in blood pressure when the starting sodium intake level was already at the U.S. recommended dietary allowance, than when the starting level was higher (higher levels are the actual average in the U.S.). These results led researchers to postulate that the adoption of a national lower daily allowance for sodium than the currently held 2,400 mg could be based on the sound scientific results provided by this study. The U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend eating a diet of 2300 mg of sodium a day or lower, with a recommendation of 1500 mg/day in adults who have elevated blood pressure; the 1500 mg/day is the low sodium level tested in the DASH-Sodium study.
I was going through some photos on our Ipad one day and I thought to myself, "Oh my . . . who is that lady sitting on our couch?" Looking closer, I realized it was ME! I am renovating my kitchen over the next few months, so I have available only a refrigerator, a microwave and a Breville countertop oven. I thought this might be a good time to try a diet program that supplies all meals. Since I don’t have a stovetop, which diet plan(s) provide all frozen meals that just need a microwave? (I see the SBD requires additional cooking of vegetables.) Also, do you know how many cubic feet of freezer space is required for SBD shipments? Thanks for your help!
