Weigh yourself on the same scale every morning so you can know how much weight you are losing. If you are on a four-week plan, you’re likely to drop a bit of weight, hold that weight for a while, and then drop again—that’s normal. Regardless: You should make the choices that you need based on what your body is telling you. If you need a day off, or to eat something else, do.


The scale is not necessarily your friend. You may want to lose fat – but the scale measures muscles, bone and internal organs as well. Gaining muscle is a good thing. Thus weight or BMI are imperfect ways to measure your progress. This is especially true if you’re just coming off a long period of semi-starvation (calorie counting), as your body may want to restore lost muscles etc. Starting weight training and gaining muscle can also hide your fat loss.
Next, you'll be asked about your goals. It's important to be realistic during this step. Your goal weight may be different than an ideal weight or a perfect weight. For example, you may want to weigh 120 pounds. But if you have struggled with your weight for most of your life and have never been lower than 150 pounds, then 120 may not be realistic at this time. Try to set a goal that you believe to be attainable. Once you reach your goal, you can always set a new one.
Intentional weight loss is in most cases achieved with the help of diets. Dietary restriction is whatsoever easier than changing one's lifestyle or beginning to practice a sport. Therefore, all sort of diets have been invented. Most of the diets that are meant to assist overweight individuals to lose weight are based on the necessary amount of calories one has to consume every day. The calories intake that is necessary for a well functioning of the body is different for men when compared to women because of the different metabolism. Thus, nutritionists agree that 1,200 calories must be consumed every day by women in order to provide the body with the minimum nutrients that are necessary to avoid damaging one's health. Men, on the other hand, may consume up to 1,500 calories on a daily basis and still lose weight. This is basically the recommended intake for individuals who need to lose weight for a better body tonus. However, individuals who are obese may have to restrict their daily calories intake to 800 or even 500. According to the FDA, healthy individuals who are not willing to lose weight should consume 2,000 calories per day.
Dairy products such as cream and cheeses. They work well in cooking as they satisfy. The problem is if you’re munching a lot of cheese in front of the TV in the evening… without being hungry. Be careful with that. Or lots of cream with dessert, when you’re actually already full and just keep eating because it tastes good. Or another common culprit: loads of heavy cream in the coffee, many times per day.
After dinner, wash all the dishes, wipe down the counters, turn out the light, and, if necessary, tape closed the cabinets and refrigerator. Late-evening eating significantly increases the overall number of calories you eat, a University of Texas study found. Learning how to stop late-night snacking can save 300 or more calories a day, or 31 pounds a year.

Simply putting your focus on eating fewer calories than you burn is a losing strategy, because this oversimplified numerical approach treats all calories as equal — which they are not, says David Ludwig, MD, PhD, a Harvard Medical School professor and internationally respected obesity researcher. It’s not so much the quantity of calories we eat that drives weight gain and loss, he asserts, but rather the nature and quality of those calories.
